Parents, these are "Seven Thing Students Want to Know" and how I will answer them for your students.
Am I in the right room?
Your students will be greeted at the door. Signs and pictures will welcome them to their new math class. Who is the teacher as a person?
The students will see a small bulletin board about me. I will introduce myself, and let them do the same. We will play "icebreakers", and the students will respect each other as they share. |
Where am I supposed to sit?
The students will be assigned seats to start the year. Seating will be more flexible after all class rules are learned. What are the rules in this classroom?
The rules will be posted. This will be one of the first discussions we have after we introduce ourselves. The students will uncover the rationale for the rules. You will see the rules in the parent letter. Will the teacher treat me as a human being?
They will already have my respect when they enter the room. Your students will thrive in the classroom that I create with them. They will work hard in math and impress themselves! |
What will I be doing this year?
The students will see classroom procedures on the wall, and will start practicing procedures in our first days. How will I be graded?
Grades will be partly based on homework, quizzes and tests. I will look for participation. I will also look at the whole portfolio they will build. They will know the grading criteria as they work. |
